Natural outdoor dog photography at Leith Hill in Surrey – Rocky

Today I’d like to share a few photos of Rocky – a mixed breed Brindle, who turned out to be a little dog with a whole lot of character..!

Annie contacted me and explained that she wanted some professional photos of Rocky because she had found it difficult to capture the detail she wanted when she’d tried this herself: a not uncommon scenario with dogs (and in particular with darker dogs, with whom many owners struggle to photograph). Annie wanted to keep the photo shoot as natural as possible, which sounded perfect to me… so we arranged to meet at one of Annie and Rocky’s favourite walks, at Leith Hill in Surrey.

After meeting at a car park at the bottom of the hill, the walk to the top turned out to be somewhat strenuous in places – largely due to the heavy nature of my camera and the various lenses I’d brough with me for the occasion! The effort however, was well rewarded since the views and scenery at the top of Leith Hill are very picturesque and made the perfect setting for our doggie photo shoot!

Rocky was quite literally in his element, so all that remained for me to do was to choose a few likely spots, and shoot away as he explored, foraged, and generally enjoyed himself. We got some lovely photos for Annie, who clearly thinks the world of Rocky.

After her photos were processed and ready, Annie visited our studio to view the pictures, and impressed me even more when she showed me some photos of her own she’d taken of Rocky – we’d discussed some useful ‘tactics’ I employ when photographing dogs outside, and Annie had taken the pointers on board and produced some lovely pictures of her own too – an added bonus!
