Chinese wedding photography at The London Golf Club

The marriage and Julia Wen and Kelvin Au, with bridal preparations at the Crow Inn, Chislehurst, the wedding ceremony taking place at Christ Church in Chislehurst, and the wedding reception at The London Golf Club in Ash, Kent… and we have a whole heap of wedding photos for you today..!

Being a Chinese wedding, Karen and I certainly had plenty of subject matter to photograph for JuJu and Kelf’s wedding… we started the day with Julia at the Crow Inn, and were shortly visited by Kelvin and his entourage. For those of you not familiar with Chinese wedding photography, before being allowed to meet his bride on the wedding day, it’s traditional for the groom (with the aid of his groomsmen) to prove his love for his bride, by passing a series of “challenges” set by the bridesmaids. These tests are very light-hearted, and very funny to observe, making a great start to the day:

The girls and boys very quickly got into the spirit of things, with the groomsmen first being dressed in some rather fetching ladies underwear over their suits, complete with hastily applied make-up courtesy of the ladies… and then on with the challenges!

Chaos reigns: blindfolds, picture-kissing, leg-waxing (ouch), singing (more ouch) and some very suspect drinking (think sweet, sour, bitter and spicy all mixed together) were all ‘witnessed’ by our bride Julia, safely tucked away in the next room, who used the wonders of modern technology to watch the whole thing using facetime via iphone(!)

The boys did great, and gave us some of the funniest moments we’ve ever seen on a wedding morning to date..! And the subject of Kelvin’s affections… a beautiful Julia, all ready for the wedding itself…

I always love that part at the church right before the wedding ceremony when suddenly everything becomes very… real!

After a lovely wedding ceremony and a few photos outside the church, we moved on to the London Golf Club for the wedding reception:

Plenty more fun and laughter during the speeches…

…and after some rather nifty entrances by the wedding party all dancing in their own inimitable styles, it was on for a night of dancing and celebrations.

Congratulations to Julia and Kelvin, who were such a great couple to work with and kept us smiling all day. Can’t wait to show you the wedding album soon!
