So, some of you already know that during the Easter period I took the time out to grab a short break in one of the most beautiful areas of Britain – The Lake District, Cumbria.
Having been in the area several times in the past, I already knew that this would be a great way to relax, unwind and take in some fantastic scenery. What I didn’t bargain for, was the Great British weather!
So here we are… myself, Karen and Wayne, all looking forward to taking it easy for a few days. We’d decided since we were going to be out and about that a caravan would be a great way to do this – after all, we just needed somewhere to sleep each night.
Finishing work around lunchtime, we travelled up in the late afternoon/evening finally arriving near midnight, exhausted. The wind had picked up, and the caravan was located on a farm on top of a hill! Out for a curry just before closing time, and off to bed ready for a day of photography next morning.
Do you remember the Easter weekend? Rain. Then we had sunshine. Then Hailstones. The wind howled. More sunshine… then… snow. And there we were in the middle of nowhere, being blown around like rag dolls and sheltering in our caravan on the hill!
Well, we photographers are made of stern stuff, so we didn’t let that deter us. Let’s show you a few snaps from the collection we took…
First off, I’m going to show you one of Wayne’s pictures. Wayne just got himself a shiny new Canon 40D, and not having been to the Lake District before was loving every minute of it. This is one he took of Karen on day one. Yes, that’s hard driven hail, and one crazy lady determined to get her landscape at all costs 🙂

Next up – one of Karen’s pictures. This was taken during a more sedate moment.

One of mine next. I’m feeling in a black and white mood today, so here we go: this is the Honister Pass. As you can see, we’d had ‘some more weather’ by this time. In fact, we had woken this morning to find the car under 3 inches of snow and the whole landscape transformed overnight into some of the most beautiful scenes I’ve seen in this country, which I can’t even begin to do justice in little pictures…

Another of mine… these little streams can be found everywhere in this district, a veritable playground for the landscape photographer. Again, I’m “feeling black and white” right now, so I’ll show you this one in mono too:

…and finally, another one from Karen. Honister Pass again, but this time in colour.

So… this was our Easter break. Every kind of weather you can imagine, and often changing quite literally from blazing sunshine through driving sleet and on to full on snow within seconds. Scary winds making Karen think the caravan was going to blow away at night, and scary spiders jumping out of the free range farm eggs for Wayne. That’ll take your mind off of ‘real’ life for a while. Excellent stuff. 🙂
Do feel free to leave your comments, I’d love to hear them.
All the best,
Rob.
