Today I have a wedding with a bit of a difference to show you…
Mel and Mike were married last Friday on the 8th August at the Ripley Arts Centre in Bromley, Kent – and decided to buck with tradition in many ways. No traditional sit down meal, no speeches: instead of this, avid salsa dancers Mel and Mike threw a party for all their family and friends – and Kevin and I got to photograph it all!
Starting the day more traditionally, we met Mel at the house, where she got ready. She looked fantastic!

Following a lovely ceremony, our couple shared a few minutes in the tranquil garden with us and posed for a few pictures…

Friends and family also did their bit for the pictures – a happy bunch indeed!

On to the reception/party – this was held at the Bromley Civic Centre. Now, I want you to take a look at this cake… pretty cool huh? Made by Mike’s own fair hand: I was very impressed!

As well as photography, the whole party was also covered by Richard Nairn – a very talented Caricaturist. More from Richard, later.

And…. Elvis!

‘Elvis’ did a great show – and also brought along his buddy Tom Jones. Now things were really getting into the party spirit… but time for a first dance, from Mel and Mike. Again – no ‘ordinary’ first dance – this was to be a full speed, high tempo Salsa. This was both great to watch, and a massive challenge to photograph in a very dark hall. Let’s have a look then…

And then back with Elvis, who got everybody rocking and rolling into the night;

Well that’s about it from me for now. A goodly bunch of pictures from a fun wedding that was very technically challenging! I do have one more thing to show you though: I said we’d see more from Richard later – and he was kind enough to capture a great picture of (left to right) Kevin, Karen, and yours truly at the end of the evening. Thanks Richard!

Thanks also to both Mel and Mike, and all their friends and family for their help and hospitality during the day and night.
Full galleries will be available soon here: Mel and Mike’s wedding day
All the best for now. Comments welcomed!
