The marriage of Charli Hendley and Ash Kumar at the Mayfair Hotel, London on Saturday 6th November 2010

So who enjoys a challenge? We do… and today I’d like to show you Charli and Ash’s wedding which gave us more than our fair share of challenges to photograph! Charli and Ash had chosen the Danziger Suite in the May Fair Hotel for their wedding ceremony and reception – a superbly impressive and opulent room opening out onto the Atrium – but being surrounded on all sides by mirrored walls lined with glossy black trellis, worked in funky art deco swirls this was going to be a challenge indeed to photograph. Still too easy? Ok… how about if we were to add a low-light wedding ceremony featuring a candle-lit aisle for our bride, followed by the wedding breakfast also held under some wonderfully atmospheric (but ultimately very dark for our cameras) lighting too? I think it’s probably fair to say that this was to be our most technically challenging wedding of 2010 and we’d need all our skills on top form to capture it!
Lighting and challenges aside, this was a really lovely wedding. Charli and Ash are perfect for each other and were a joy to work with on the day, as was everybody else we met on the day too. It was also really nice to bump into a few familiar faces – Ash had two best men for the day – including Paul, whose wedding to Kamila we photographed at the Stanhill Court Hotel last year. Paul had been kind enough to recommend our services to Charli and Ash, so many thanks for that – and congratulations on the impending baby in the New Year!
So enough of my rambling… let’s look at a few wedding photos then!

Mirrored walls and low-light… a joy to photograph! I love how you can see the guests in the reflections of this shot though 🙂

An amazing surprise suite for Charli…

The wedding cakes looked scrummy… and we enjoyed some of the best speeches I’d heard all year!

So there you are. An interesting wedding to photograph for sure and I was certainly glad that we use only top equipment and know how to use it… which allows us to create top notch photos that would otherwise be impossible with cheaper equipment and less experience. I hope you’ve enjoyed the photos… and, as always, your comments are welcome below.
All the best for now.
Rob.

First taster of our lovely photos – can’t wait to see the full set! The photo in the schaparelli suite is so striking – captures all the colours perfectly. And so many smiling faces, which is how I remember the day.
Sorry for creating such a challenge – we did warn you! The results look amazing, thank you.
Charli
Excellent photos – excellent day.
Rob, my sister Charli and new brother-in-law Ash sent the link for the first few pictures today. What beautiful pictures. You really captured the day and I am really impressed at how you overcame the lighting “challenges”! I can’t wait to see the rest of the photos when the newlyweds are back from honeymoon! Brilliant!
What beautiful photos! Both the posed shots and the natural ones are just lovely. Would definitely recommend you to any of my friends down south. Glad to see my husband’s kilt featured, even in such a small selection 😉
Incredible photos. I’m particularly amazed that you managed to get such a great shot of Ash & Charli at the “altar”, with only the crowd and not you reflected in the mirrors.
Very, very good job.
Tom (Best Man #2)
Really beautiful photos – I can’t wait to see the rest of them. Charli and Ash both looked absolutely stunning on the day and I’m so pleased that you’ve captured that.
You’ve also captured the fun and laughs that we had and brought back some really special memories of their wedding day so thank you.
Fantastic photigraphs. Amazing colours and settings. Can’t wait
to see full set of photos.
Absolutely stunning pictures. We look forward to seeing the rest. What memories, and what a fantastic way to start married life. Thank you for capturing those memories so well, despite the technical constraints imposed. Excellent job.
What beautiful pictures – you certainly overcame all the challenges! We don’t like to make life too easy! You have captured the joyous occasion so well – can’t wait to see the full set. Well done.
Rob – great job again, you made sure that our recommendation lived up to the hype! Really impressed with the composition of the photo in the suite and as Tom said in the ceremony.
Such a fantastic day, and what lovely photographs to remember it all by.
Lovely happy couple with fantastic photos. Sorry we were not there for your wedding. I hope to see you soon.
Gorgeous pics…
