Well, I spend a good deal of my time sat in front of a computer these days. Too much, in fact. What used to be done in the darkroom (yep, that would be ‘real’ photography) has now been replaced by a computer – so in addition to the usual admin involved in running a business, a good chunk of my actual photographic work involves the use of a computer too.
So… Wednesday morning saw a major spanner being thrown in the works, when my pc decided to throw a massive tantrum at the expense of a pair of hard drives containing a whole heap of files (not least, Windows itself)!
Makes you realise just how fragile everything is, and how dependent we are on technology! Thankfully, my workflow means I routinely back up my photos to network attached storage drives in addition to dvd copies – so my photos are safe… but this really makes you realise how little actually gets done when your primary tools are taken away from you. I’m currently floundering around, installing, re-installing, and re-setting everything up again on clean new hard drives – but until I get everything set up and calibrated, no serious ‘proper’ work is being done. Not great.
I’m expecting ‘normal’ service to be resumed within a week or so, once I’ve taken delivery of a shiny new computer and set everything up on that one – but in the meantime I hope anyone who has to wait a little longer than normal, can be patient while I muddle through!
Well, I just thought I’d take a little break to have a short rant about my techno problems – but I’d best get back to sorting them out now. Wish me luck!
And remember folks… keep those photos backed up, you never know what’s around the corner!
Rob.
